System Components and Interfaces

The so called system components are used to form the communication backbone on which the hierarchical bus structure of the ABB i-bus® EIB / KNX system is built. For trouble free commissioning and communication with the outside world, a range of interface products using different media for maximum compatibility are available.

The ABB Range includes:

  • Line couplers and IP gateways for building up the EIB / KNX bus structure, via twisted pair cable and/or Ethernet.
  • Bus couplers for the integration of application elements, such as thermostats, motion detectors and switch sensors into the ABB i-bus® EIB / KNX installation
  • RS 232 and USB interfaces for installation commissioning and visualisation purposes.
  • Optical fibre interfaces for transmitting EIB / KNX telegrams over longer distances or through EMC critical environments.
