What happens if the power goes out?

2008-06-18 - This question was the central focus of the ABB Technical seminar held in Melbourne on 29 May 2008. The local sales team for MV, LVS and LVP, Motors and Drives had invited EPCs, Consultants and End Customers to a seminar focusing on very topical issues.

The afternoon started with an introduction to ABB and an overview on our E-packaging capabilities by Regina Roos, National Sales Manager for LVS. This was followed by seminar sessions on various topics presented by product experts:

    • Zone Selectivity and EFDP (Early Fault Detection and Prevention) including a demonstration of the DOC-Win program, presented by Joh deLange, Product Manager, LVP
    • Arc Fault and Arcflash Containment presented by David Stonebridge, Switchgear Specialist, LVS
    • Latest application of the Low Voltage Motor Control Centre (MCC) type MNSiS presented by Gunnar Zank, Regional Support Manager, ABB Singapore
    • Is-Limitor – an application for short circuit reduction in MV and LV applications, presented by Volker Schmidt, ABB Germany
The topics sparked great interest amongst attendees who took advantage of the “Question and Answer” time at the end of each session, even challenging Volker Schmidt to prove the features of an Is Limitor based on some mathematical calculations.

The break times created valuable networking opportunities and many new customer contacts were established, promising some further lead generation.

With two overseas product specialists in Australia, further ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions were organised at major customer sites. Between 26th and 30th June some 130 engineers and project managers had been educated on the above mentioned topics.

Customers addressed through both the Technical Seminar and ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions included Worley Parsons, Uhde Shedden, Aker Kvaerner, Exxon Mobil, PSN, Current Consulting, Shell, CitiPower and others.

Thank you to Stephen Poh, Peter Burgess and Stephen Gough for arranging the event, with administration support from Sharon Adams. Thank you also to the Victorian sales team and all presenters for their efforts.

With much positive feedback received, further events of this kind will be planned for both Melbourne and Adelaide during the reminder of 2008.
