ABB delivers Industrial IT-Solutions to Eastern Province Cement Company in Saudi Arabia

Contract award for the new clinker production line No. 3 of Eastern Province Cement Company (EPCC)

Baden, Switzerland, November 26, 2003 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, has been awarded a contract by the consortium leader Polysius AG of Germany for the new clinker production line being built for the Eastern Province Cement Company in Saudi Arabia.


ABB has been involved in the planning, construction and commissioning of EPCC since the beginning of the company in 1982. The order was won, among other things, due to the excellent and longstanding relationship with EPCC, the success of previous deliveries, customer satisfaction with the delivered systems and equipment as well as the excellent service capabilities provided by ABB in the past.

Polysius AG was awarded the complete contract in June 2003. Installation is scheduled to begin in January 2005 and commissioning in July 2005. Commercial operation of the new production line is planned to start by end of 2005. The scope of the ABB deliveries encompasses medium and low voltage distribution equipment, DriveIT variable speed drives Type ACS600 with low and medium voltage motors, ControlIT process controllers and OperateIT human interface portals, electrical infrastructure as well as the interfacing and interconnection to the various systems and equipment of the existing plant. Erection, erection supervision, commissioning and customer training is also included within the ABB scope.

The Eastern Province Cement Company is located at Khursaniyah on the coast of the Arabian Gulf close to the oil fields. The production capacity will be increased by 3500 tons to 10’500 tons per day when the new clinker production line No.3 comes on stream.
