ABB wins $24 million mining automation order in China

Hoist solutions combines drives, motors and control for Huainan Group

Zurich, Switzerland, November 23, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won a $24 million order from Huainan Mining Group Co. Ltd. of China, to supply mine hoist equipment for eight of the group’s coal mines.

ABB’s delivery includes ACS 6000 SD drive systems with Direct Torque Control, synchronous motors and hoist control systems based on the new Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA. The project encompasses five new mine hoists, complete brake systems for 11 new hoists and replacement brake systems for 13 existing hoists. The equipment will be delivered during 2005 and 2006.

Early this year, Huainan Mining Group placed an order with ABB to supply electrical equipment for two production hoists equipped with ACS 6000 SD drive systems and two AC800M hoist control systems. The order also included four complete brake systems for two production and two service hoists.
