ABB receives USD 90-million order to build 125-megawatt IPP power plant - ABB's first combined-cycle power plant in Thailand.
Zurich, Switzerland, January 11, 1996 - ABB, the international electrical engineering company, has received an order valued at over USD 90 million to build a 125-megawatt combined-cycle cogeneration power plant in Thailand. The order was placed by Industrial Power Company Ltd (IPCO), Bangkok, which is an independent power producer (IPP) formed by Hemaraj Land & Development Co. Ltd, Bangkok, to develop the project. The power plant is ABB's first combined-cycle project in Thailand and will be located in the rapidly developing Map Ta Phut industrial estate, some 160 kilometers south-east of Bangkok. Electricity from the plant will be sold to the state Electricity Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and also directly to industrial consumers. Further energy from the plant will be supplied in the form of steam to local industries being developed in the area. The project is being financed through local Thai banks. Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in February 1996 and electricity from the first turboset is ex
pected to be available within 20 months.
ABB will supply the gas and steam turbosets, the heat recovery steam generators, the electricity generators, the power plant control system and auxiliary electrical equipment. As turnkey supplier, ABB companies will be responsible for the overall project management, technical and commercial coordination, civil construction and the commissioning of the plant.
The power plant will incorporate ABB's advanced combined-cycle technology and low-NOx burners, which achieve high fuel efficiency with low emissions. The turbines will be configured in two single-shaft blocks, with each block comprising a gas turbine and a steam turbine coupled to a single generator in a tandem arrangement. The advantages of this system are operating simplicity, high availabilty, simplified layout and reduced equipment and construction costs.
ABBs Power Generation segment employs more than 40,000 people worldwide with orders in 1994 of nearly USD 10 billion. The ABB Group employs approximately 212,000 people with orders in 1994 of nearly USD 32 billion.
