ABB appoints local country managers for Poland, Russia and Spain

ABB, the international electrical engineering company, has appointed three new country managers to head its operations in Spain, Russia and Poland. In making these appointments, the Group has given preference to selecting suitable managers who are nationals of the countries involved. This follows Group policy to strengthen ABB's relations and effectiveness within the major countries in which it operates.

Miroslaw Gryszka (47) has been appointed new Country Manager for Poland, based in Warsaw and effective January 1, 1997. He was previously Deputy Managing Director of ABB Zamech, Elblag - ABB's power generation factory and biggest company in Poland. He replaces David Hunter who has built up ABB's presence in the country over the last 5 years from almost nothing to todays 7,000 employees.

Michel Tchesnakoff (49) has been appointed new Country Manager for the Russian Federation, based in Moscow and effective September 1, 1996. He was previously responsible for financial administration and business development in ABB Russia, and replaces Max Asgari who after 25 years service is retiring from ABB after having successfully built up ABBs presence in Russia to over 20 companies.

Fernando Conte (46) has been appointed new Country Manager for Spain, based in Madrid and effective September 1, 1996. He was previously head of ABB's Power Transmission and Distribution segment within ABB Spain. He replaces Xabier de Irala, who after 23 years service has left ABB to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Iberia Airlines, after having successfully steered ABB Spain through difficult times.

ABB employs 142,000 people in 41 countries in Europe. The ABB Group employs approximately 217,000 people worldwide with orders in 1995 of over US$ 36 billion. (End).
