ABB adds single input versions to analyser range

2003-05-23 - ABB Limited has launched single input versions of its AnalyzeIT AX400 pH/Redox and Conductivity analysers. Available in two configurations, the AnalyzeIT AX410 is a dedicated conductivity analyser, while the AnalyzeIT AX460 is a pH analyser.

The AX400 is supplied as standard with three alarm set points, providing users with the flexibility to employ a set point to alarm on upset of the process value, temperature or on a diagnostic condition. This is particularly useful to warn of process critical events such as an empty dosing tank or a pump failure. With only two alarm set points, as provided on many other analysers, such failures would go unnoticed, leading to potential safety hazards.

The analyser can be easily upgraded to a dual input device or a combined conductivity/pH version by simply adding the appropriate input card. This versatility, together with an add-on option card, gives a cost-effective way to cover a wide range of applications.

The advanced option card equips the instrument with four current outputs and five alarm relays, which can also be assigned to the process value or sample temperature. In the case of the pH instrument a real-time clock and pH log book are provided by the card to record things such as alarm events and electrode status.

The AX410 operates from ultra pure water conductivity levels up to 10,000 microsiemens/cm, enabling the same instrument to be used for a wide range of industries, from power and water to pharmaceuticals applications. The unit incorporates a comprehensive temperature compensation capability so that measurements are always accurate, whether on ammonia-dosed boiler waters, cation exchanger outlets or even semiconductor etch-rinse processes.

The single input AX460 pH analyser incorporates many features as standard including three-term PID control, producing an all-in-one sophisticated controller at the same price as a standard pH analyser. For the end user, this means no extra expense for a separate controller, while for OEMs, it also means a considerable saving of space.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the AX460 gives the user a large number of control options, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. The user can configure the controller for pulse frequency, pulse length and analogue and it can be used for direct, reverse or bi-directional control, allowing the device to be used to dose either acids or alkalis via solenoid valves or metering pumps, as well as both simultaneously.

The AX460 pH instrument features water wash and chemical clean as standard, with the frequency and duration of the wash selectable by the user to meet the needs of the application. For chemical cleaning, an optional tank, complete with delivery pump and low level alarm, can be ordered separately. This has proven particularly successful on potable drinking water plants in reducing unacceptably high levels of maintenance created by manganese and iron coating.

All versions of the analysers are supplied with two fully isolated current outputs that can be assigned to either the process variable (pH, Redox or conductivity) or the sample temperature.

ABB’s AnalyzeIT AX400 analysers are supplied as standard for 85 to 265V AC operation. To meet the move to safe working practices, which is increasingly becoming a standard across industry, the instrument can also be provided with 24V AC or 12 to 30V DC operation.

Designed for ease of installation, all AX400 Series analysers are available for either wall-/pipe or panel-mounting and are rated to IP66/NEMA 4X.
