ABB Building Systems secures BBC contract

2003-05-06 - ABB Building Systems has been awarded a contract from Land Securities Trillium (LS Trillium) to provide Mechanical and Electrical project work to the BBC under a three-year, Measured Term Contract (MTC).

The MTC will enlist ABB Building Systems to provide often technically complex electrical and mechanical solutions to a number of BBC properties in London. The contract involves some large-scale project work including the provision of mechanical and electrical work on prime time TV programmes.

Ian McGregor, Project Engineer, ABB Building Systems, comments: "ABB Building Systems is providing M&E contract works on projects which involved a huge amount of design work and the tight coordination of other trades such as technical installers, riggers, scene lighting and set designers. A critical element of the job is to ensure that the vast amount of cabling supplying the BBC with power to 'broadcast critical' services, such as its 24-hour news room, remained fully-functional throughout the whole operation."
Another project for ABB Building Systems has been to assist with the design and installation of the power server for the BBC's Digital TV service, which includes three different back-up power supplies to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to this critical broadcast service.
ABB Building Systems is a Service Partner of LS Trillium and as such is participating in performance monitoring for the Measured Term contract. Adhering to Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), ABB Building Systems and LS Trillium will provide the BBC with Best Value, effective working practices and an assurance that safe systems of work are continuously maintained.
ABB Building Systems is based at BBC Television Centre, Wood Lane W12.
