Simplified programming and the ability to be retrofitted into any existing temperature head are just two of the key benefits offered by ABB’s new TH01 head-mounted temperature transmitters. Available in a standard DIN format and featuring ABB’s revolutionary new easy programming method, TH01 and TH01-Ex transmitters offer a convenient and cost effective temperature measurement solution for use in standard, intrinsically safe and ATEX applications.

Designed for use across a wide range of industries, TH01 temperature transmitters feature electrical isolation and meet NAMUR standards for use in chemical and pharmaceutical applications. The TH01-Ex explosion-proof version is approved for use in ATEX zones 1 and 2. All transmitters in the range are colour coded, making it easy to identify which model to use for a particular installation.

Setting up the transmitters is made easy by ABB’s Easy Configuration (Eco) Message method. Using this method, users can set up TH01 transmitters with the full range of transmitter functions with any software tools or handheld terminals using standard HART universal/generic commands without the need for device-specific drivers, which commonly restrict the level of functionality. By eliminating the complexity associated with programming traditional transmitters, the Eco Message method allows users to typically save up to 10 minutes per transmitter, particularly ideal on large sites where many units may be installed.

Localised programming and reprogramming is also possible using ABB’s ProMeter interface display. The ProMeter features push buttons that the operator can use to simply configure parameters in the field.

Although the TH01 can be programmed digitally, it can also be used in the same way as an analogue device, enabling it to receive analogue inputs.

TH01 transmitters can receive inputs from all resistance thermometers, thermocouples and remote resistance sensors. The resistance thermometer version is suited for all PT100 ohm resistance applications between -200°C to +850°C, with a minimum span of 15°C. The transmitter measures temperature by converting the output from a resistance thermometer into a 4-20mA signal proportionally.

The thermocouple version accepts all the standard element types (B,E,J,K,L,N,R,
S,T,U). The millivolt output from the connected thermocouple is converted into both a 4-20mA linearised and a galvanic isolated signal. The TH01 is suitable for temperatures between –270°C and +1,820°C, with a minimum span equivalent to two millivolts.

All devices in the TH01 range are fully EMC compliant. The devices are protected against the effects of radiated fields with strengths of 80mhz to 1Ghz and 10 volts per metre.

The range comprises the TH01 and TH01-Ex models for use in head-mounted assemblies and the TH101 and TH101-Ex rail devices, each with the option of single or dual-channel versions. A standard three-year warranty period applies to each model.
