ABB announces price increase on ANSI medium voltage air-insulated switchgear

2008-05-07 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announces an immediate price increase of 5-10% on all new quotations for all medium voltage (rated from 4 to 15 kV) air-insulated switchgear manufactured in Lake Mary, Florida.

This pricing action allows ABB to continue investing in manufacturing technology and new product innovations to ensure the highest quality, service, and functionality. ABB has designed its switchgear to be the safest and most technologically advanced lineup in the industry. This means higher reliability, longer life-expectancy, reduced maintenance costs, and improved personnel safety. This translates to reduced lifetime costs for our customers and provides them with the innovations necessary to meet the latest safety and efficiency standards our customers demand.

For existing contracts and quotations, pricing will remain at the quoted level.

This action also comes amid sustained high raw material costs (carbon steel, stainless steel, electrical steel, aluminum, copper, and transportation fuel) for our equipment:

  • Fuel prices for inbound and outbound equipment have continued to climb dramatically
  • Crude oil prices are affecting many commodity items including plastics, insulators, etc., which is passed to us by our suppliers
  • Continued rising prices in raw materials, such as steel and copper, continue to drive up manufacturing costs
The above commodities and costs represent a substantial portion of the material content for medium voltage switchgear.

ABB remains committed to delivering an innovative product and service portfolio, which contributes to improved reliability, along with warranties beyond the industry standard.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs more than 110,000 people.
