Robots within aerospace manufacturing

2008-08-21 - ABB’s UK robotics business will be demonstrating its latest robot technologies specific to the aerospace manufacturing industry with a seminar being held on the 23rd September 2008 at ABB in Milton Keynes.

The seminar identifies the technology advancements of robot-based solutions within this industry as aerospace companies find themselves being driven to switch from the manual based manufacturing and craft based approach to try and combat the increasing costs and rigorous health and safety issues within their production processes.

Demonstrations will be shown on the latest technologies available from ABB and include:

Vision Guided Robots
A robust vision based on a single camera which can precisely locate parts in a 3D space. This can automate operations that previously required human intervention and eliminate the need for expensive fixturing, pre-arrange or placing of parts.

Force Control
Tactile sense makes the Robot smart for assembly and finishing applications. This can realize faster cycle times and reduced risk of damage to expensive components during de-burring, polishing or assembly operations.

LifeCycle Services – Remote Service
ABB’s patented remote service technology enables wireless remote analysis of robot function. This can automatically generate an alarm when a problem occurs and ABB engineers can quickly identify the exact fault to give rapid support via the telephone 24/7. This increases plant up time and minimizes mean time to repair.

RobotStudio
True off-line programming and simulation package which reduces the risk by visualizing and confirming solutions and layouts before the system is created in reality. Use of part models imported into RobotStudio can automatically generate robot positions in minutes, saving valuable engineering time.

This seminar is part of ABB’s continuing drive to help aerospace manufacturers realize new levels of productivity and product quality through the adoption of robotic technology.
