The continued growth in the transmission side of the business has increased the global demand for power transformers and high voltage circuit breakers, therefore causing the demand for BCTs to reach unprecedented levels.
In order to continue to provide world-class customer service during this period of increased demand, ABB recently expanded the capacity of the BCT product line by 25%. Significant capital investments were made, including additional manufacturing equipment and new floor layouts. The designs are based on value stream mapping with lean principles, featuring a high speed work-cell dedicated to medium and small rings.
Because of this expansion, lead times for BCTs have been reduced to 5-6 weeks.
