2009-05-11 - ABB Limited will be underlining its expertise in water and waste water treatment applications with a selection of its latest instrumentation equipment and systems at IWEX 2009 (19th – 21st May, Birmingham NEC).
Visitors to stand F20 will see a comprehensive selection of ABB’s instrumentation products, including the new Aztec range of analyzers designed specifically for the challenges of the water treatment market. Built on ABB’s new analytical instrument platform, the ABB Aztec 600 Aluminium, Iron and Manganese colorimetric monitors offer enhanced accuracy with simple operation and maintenance for potable water treatment applications.
The analyzers use an LED and detector to measure the passage of light through a sample. A single precisely controlled piston pump provides all the sample and reagent fluid handling for measurement, mixing and disposal of up to six samples per hour.
The Aztec range incorporates a host of features aimed at maximising measurement accuracy, such as automatic two point calibration, self-cleaning functionality and automatic sample dilution. An automatic calibration feature helps to reduce the frequency of maintenance checks from every three months to just once a year.
The Aztec 600 will be joined by ABB’s AX400 analyzers and its UV nitrate monitor for use throughout potable and industrial wastewater processes.
Other products on display will be ABB’s recently launched WaterMaster flowmeter with its revolutionary octagonal flow sensor together with the AquaMaster GSM-SMS electromagnetic flowmeter. Based on the same technology as a mobile phone, the AquaMaster can be contacted using a PC or laptop, or through a mobile phone via SMS messaging, providing operators with instant remote access to flow data. Also on show will be the CalMaster2, the first in-situ verification system for battery and mains-powered electromagnetic flow meters along with the innovative VeriMaster verification system for WaterMaster.
Accompanying these products will be ABB’s world-leading portfolio of PROFIBUS enabled devices, enabling remote access to a greater range of process data at the field level. These will include ABB’s recently launched range of 364 series pressure transmitters, plus examples of its latest temperature sensor and transmitter ranges.
Another world-first on the stand will be ABB’s field-mountable SM500F recorder, the first videographic data recorder capable of being installed virtually anywhere. A choice of mounting options means the SM500F can be easily installed onto a panel, wall or pipe without the additional expense associated with the enclosures normally required to field mount a traditional videographic recorder. Its fully sealed IP66 and NEMA 4X enclosure provides full protection against water and dust ingress.
“The ABB stand is a must-see for anyone interested in finding out how they could benefit from the latest developments in analytical and flow measurement technology for water and wastewater treatment applications,” says Tony Hoyle, UK Flow Product Manager, ABB Limited. “We will be using the show to demonstrate the exciting possibilities on offer from ABB to help operators and major end users optimize their water management.”
As part of the IWEX seminar programme, Tony Hoyle will be holding a presentation on MCERTS and self monitoring of effluent flow under PPC– at 13:30 on Tuesday 19th May. This presentation will give an introduction to EPR /PPC permits and the self-monitoring of effluent flow, touching on regulatory flow monitoring requirements and verification. It will also include a review of the progress made on these fronts in the UK’s industrial and water sectors.
ABB manufactures and supplies a wide range of equipment for measuring and monitoring water and waste water treatment processes, for both utilities and industrial applications. ABB Field Service teams also support many utility companies with verification and on site support contracts.
